Cancer -- Natural Solution-- Natural Preventative
(by Darleen E. Rudnick, Pet Nutritionist)

You may believe that cancer is different from other diseases, acting like a fire, in that you can't stop it once it has started. Therefore, you have to cut it out or radiate it to death or chemically destroy every cancerous
cell in the body since it can never become normal again. Nothing could be more wrong. Cancer is a very treatable disease and a disease we should not lose hope over. By taking a look at the factors that cause Cancer, and looking at what feeds Cancer, you can stop it in the body.

It is well known that certain factors increase the likelihood of cancer. Environmental factors and diet are widely believed to be two of the major causes of cancer -- because these two factors impair the immune system.

The nutritional program and other recommendations outlined in this article are designed for pets who have been diagnosed with cancer, as well as those who wish to enhance their pets chances of avoiding this disease.

1. Avoid Exposure to Harmful Radiation.

There is NO such thing as a safe dose of radiation. Your pet's risk of genetic and immune system damage correlates with the total amount of radiation they have received over their lifetime. Never believe anyone who tells you that the amount of radiation coming at your pet from any source is too small to matter.

Do not let your Veterinarian X-ray your pet without good reason. It is common knowledge that Radiologists have a shorter life expectancy than other doctors and a higher incidence of cancers known to be induced by
radiation. Therefore, do not agree to X-rays unless your vet can make you understand why they are necessary.

2. Protect the Skin from Ultraviolet Radiation.

Ultraviolet light will damage DNA cells in the skin which ultimately can lead to skin cancer. Pets love being out in the sun on a beautiful day, and they should not be denied. However, be aware that at some times of day and at some times of year, sunlight is very dangerous. The sun is most damaging in the middle of the day. Therefore, early morning and evening is a good time to take your pet out to exercise.

3. Avoid Exposure to Harmful Chemicals.

Chemical carcinogens are probably responsible for more cancer than radiation is. As with radiation, no level of exposure to these substances can be considered safe. Every exposure depletes the immune system.
The liver is responsible for the burden of metabolizing and detoxifying unwanted substances that enter the body. When the liver fails, the organs of the immune system become more susceptible to damage and their function declines. Therefore, don't apply or use chemicals around your pet. A good rule of thumb is: Before purchasing a product, carefully read the label. If it states, "Hazardous to Humans and Domestic Animals," this product may cause cancer. I can not name products or company names, but I am well aware that some companies know their products are causing health problems, but because of greed and profit, they are keeping them on the market making a fortune. I have seen kidney failure, liver damage and seizures due to flea products and other chemicals used on pets.

4. Do Not Smoke Around Your Pet!!

Tobacco smoke is the single most important cause of cancer in the environment today.

5. Do Not Feed Your Pet Carcinogenic Foods.

Avoid foods with high levels of sodium, foods containing sodium nitrate, smoked foods and pickled food. One new food on the market claims to be high quality, but pickles their meat. Many pets who have been seizure free for months started their pets on this pickled diet and the pet immediately began to seizure.

6. Feed Your Pet A Healthy Diet.

When dealing with Cancer, I highly recommend a homemade diet consisting of a variety of foods from all the food groups. I am not against a raw diet, but for safety reasons and personal opinions, I do not recommend it.

For homemade diets, I suggest concentrating on whole brown rice, oat, bran, and plenty of vegetables -- broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, carrots, squash and yams. Apples, chickpeas, lentils and red
beans all help to fight cancer.

If feeding a dry or canned pet food, the highest quality diet is a must. Avoid foods containing poultry-by-product meal, meat meal, meat-by-products, wheat flour, wheat gluten, corn gluten meal, peanuts hulls, BHA, BHT and excess sodium. An example of a high quality dry food is Sirius Pet Foods listed on my website www.purelypets.com

Do not feed, peanuts, processed refined food, saturated fats, salt, sugar, white flour, lunch meat and hot dogs.

Limit dairy products. A little plain yogurt is good occasionally.

Garlic is essential for cleansing the body.

Provide distilled water only, NOT tap water.

Feed only in glassware.

There are many Cancer diets available to the public. Some call for low protein, others high protein, some concentrate on grains, other concentrate on meat. Personally, all this information is very confusing. Therefore, I try to lay out simple, realistic programs that owners can actually follow through with.

I have tried raw diets, cooking over the stove for hours and many elaborate recipes. I could not do it because let's face it, we all have a busy life and can't do everything we would like. I therefore, started with crockpot dinners, throwing everything into a pot and 6 hours later coming back to a home cooked meal for my pets. This is something I have the time to do and realistically can follow through with. This is why I provide Crockpot Recipes.

The program outlined below are general guidelines to follow. Each pet is an individual and has it's own particular needs. Therefore I highly recommend a consultation before beginning the program. We offer these at no charge and at your convenience.

In crockpot place chicken, whole brown rice, 1 1/2 cups water.
Cook on LOW for 6 hours or until the chicken is completely cooked.

Beef Melody

1/2 cup Alfalfa Sprouts

In crockpot place beef, potatoes, 1 cup water.
Cook on LOW for 6 hours or until the beef is completely cooked. Turn pot
off and add 1 bag frozen/fresh vegetables. Stir.
Meal is complete.

Before serving remove the bones, add Alfalfa sprouts. Refrigerator for 6 days -- then discard.

It is extremely important to feed your pet several small meals a day regardless of a health problem. It is NOT healthy to feed your pet once a day. Keep in mind when you eat once a day you feel irritable, dizzy and
then you overeat. Pets need to eat as we do -- breakfast, lunch, dinner and a light snack before bedtime. If every pet owner did this, we would see a decline in health problems immediately. I will outline the ideal schedule, however, you need to work this out with your schedule and your convenience.

7:00 a.m. or when you get up: Homemade diet.
11:00 a.m. Light snack: *Fruit (apple, cantaloupe, grapes)
3:00 p.m. Light snack: Vegetable (carrot)
7:00 p.m. Dinner: Homemade diet
Before bed: Light snack: fruit or vegetable

*Do not feed fruits and vegetables together just one or the other.

I am well aware that many pet owners do not have the time to cook meals for their pet. You should not feel guilty or feel that you will never get the problem under control. Sirius is a high quality dog/cat food that ncludes chicken meal, turkey meal, whole brown rice and other high quality ingredients. With the addition of Sirius and the supplements listed below you will be feeding a fairly well rounded diet.

7. Supplements. Cancer Can Not Attack A Clean Body.

Disease can not attack a clean body. It is so important to keep the body clean as this WILL prevent disease. I hear on a daily basis, "My pet is not sick so I don't need to do that." If I can teach one thing it is that,
you need to treat the pet before you see any signs. Clean the body before you see an ailment. This applies to Cancer, Asthma, Epilepsy and any other ailment your pet may be suffering from.

I personally follow the Cancer program outlined (since all the products mentioned are human grade). I have NO signs of Cancer and NO health problems. I am keeping my body clean so I stay healthy.

Cancer is not a disease that can be prevented with one or two vitamins. It is a disease that stays in the body (hopefully in remission) attacking many parts of the body. There are several steps that need to be taken in order to keep this disease in remission.

The program outlined is a ONE year program. It may seem very complicated and a lot of products to use over one year, but every organ needs to be targeted in the prevention.

8. Exercise.

Exercise has anti-cancer effects and increases the efficiency of the immune
system.

9. Don't Have a Cancer Personality.

Pet Owners -- take care of yourself and follow all the suggestions above. I have been studying nutrition and working with pets since 1987. My findings are that many times pets suffer from emotional stress, disease and other factors due to events going on in the owner's life.

About 2 years ago, I did a person-to-person consultation with a women. Her pet, Holly, suffered from Cancer. At the point she came to me, Holly was not eating, lethargic, underweight, and suffering from many skin
problems. She was not on vitamins, but eating a homemade diet. On a scale of 1-5, 1 being the best, Holly scored a 4. At the first consultation, the women told me the history of her pet and some things about herself. She was currently in an abusive relationship, working two jobs to try to leave this man and had many health problems herself. At that point, I did not recommend the above program, but simply added Mega Pet which is high in Vitamin B's and helps the body handle stress. Most of my time was spent counseling the woman.

I kept in close contact and 3 months later she left the abusive relationship and found an apartment. Immediately after making the move, Holly appeared to come back to life. She started eating, gaining weight and showing other signs of improvement. Now on a scale of 1-5 she was at a 3. I do not give Mega Pet all the credit. The credit goes to the owner who left behind the stress, hurt, anxiety and found herself a safe, secure
environment. The immune system can not function properly when you are living around grief, anger and abuse. Once she moved, this is when I suggested the above program, as now the pet's immune system was ready to get on the road to recovery.

It is very important how an owner lives, how he feels and how he acts as all these things influence a pet's outcome. It is always amazing to me that pets often suffer from the same ailments their owners do. I suffer
from night blindness and so does my Shih Tzu.

Cancer is a very powerful disease causing pain, distress and feelings of helplessness. However, it is so important to be positive with your pet and seek a caring professional who is well versed in traditional and natural
alternatives so you can make the best choice for your pet.

If you need further help, I offer a consultation service http://www.purelypets.com/main/expert.htm
A consultation will include a personalized diet and holistic program suggestions, all custom-tailored to your pet's personal needs. While I continue to provide and even add educational articles on the website, these
are just general in nature. I therefore encourage you to tailor a program specifically for your pet's needs. This is particularly imperative in pets with complicated health issues, or if you've done a lot of outside reading
and have conflicting information.

Please feel free to contact me about your pet anytime.
