Some
thoughts from the webmaster,
As most of our viewers already know, RottenRotty's owners
are very active in fostering and rescuing Rottweilers in and
around the Central Virginia area. But, incase you didn't
know, we are only 1 or 2 families currently fostering under
the name R.O.R.R. (Rescue Our Richmond Rottweilers), and the
need for more foster homes is growing exponentially. At any
given time, we have had as many as 4 needy Rotts in our care
that we may have to nurse back to health prior to listing
for adoption. So just because you don't see any dogs listed
as ready for adoption on the RORR
web site, don't think that we are not filled to
capacity. Recently we have received a large number of
requests for help in fostering outside of the state of
Virginia such as North Carolina, Maryland, Washington D.C.
and even farther. While this would not be a problem if we
did not have so many right here in Richmond, we are being
overwhelmed with these types of requests.
This brings me to the reason that I am
sharing this with our viewers. Anyone who has owned and
loved a Rottweiler could never just give them up simply
because it's no longer convenient to have the dog around.
That is what we call an irresponsible owner! Sure we know
that sometimes it's unavoidable, but hey, would you give up
your child for same reasons? If the answer is 'NO",
then perhaps you are an irresponsible Rottweiler owner, or
just without the ability to feel emotions! I'm sorry
if these words seem harsh, but if the general viewing public
could take a few of the emails, or phone calls that RORR
gets each week, you'd defiantly agree with us, without a
doubt!
We've noticed that some rescues and even
some shelters have had to resort to charging a fee for what
we call "Owner Surrenders" as a result of the
"irresponsible owner" costing the rescue more
funds for things like; shots, spay & neutering fees or
even food (these dogs aren't of the toy size ya know). All
we ask is, "do the right thing for your Rottweiler
family member" and only as a last resort, give the
animal to a shelter or rescue.....Be Responsible and if you
do Surrender you Rott to a shelter or Rescue, be sure to
give them a cash donation, after all, they're doing you a
huge favor!!! ;-)
